Southern California won four of its five matches against Arizona to clinch SDSU’s March Mayhem at The Farms.
Karen Chung, ranked No. 19 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, held off a late charge by Haley Moore to win 1 up by making par at 17 and birdie at 18 to hold on.
Gabriella Then handed Lindsey Weaver a 4 and 3 loss, while Robynn Ree beat Krystal Quihuis 3 and 2 to clinch the win for the Trojans. Amy Lee was 1 up through 17 when play was called.
Gigi Stoll won the lone match for Arizona by beating Victoria Morgan 2 and 1. An eagle on nine turned the match into Stoll’s favor and a birdie on 17 clinched it.
“This was a great event and a neat format,” USC Coach Andrea Gaston said. “Four rounds, it’s a lot of golf, and gives us good experience. Oregon on Monday was a heck of a match and emotions ran high. It was great to see Victoria come through with a couple great shots to halve her match and give us that win.”
Morgan was the hero in the second round for USC as she stole a half-point at the 18th to tie Oregon 2-2-1 and help the Trojans eventually continued on. The Trojans then ousted Stanford 4-1 before downing the 3-seeded Wildcats in the final.
Arizona moved on after beating UCLA in the semifinals in a tiebreaker after tying 2-2-1.
